Why Google My Business is so Important:
What’s the first thing you do when you want to get information on a restaurant, store or doctor’s office?
If you’re like us, you probably answered “Google.” Google is the main source of information for people with questions, and the company doesn’t handle “trillions” of searches per year for no reason.
This is why your Google listing is so important. When potential patients hear about your practice, you can safely assume they’ll probably run a quick Google search.
A bunch of links to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and your practice’s website will pop up when they hit enter, but the thing that will most likely draw their attention is the little box on the right side of the page, which Google refers to as the knowledge panel. That box of information comes straight from your Google My Business page, and it’s absolutely crucial that information is correct.
Possible patients will see your address, phone number, hours, select reviews, a map with your location pinned and select photos.
If any of that information is wrong, you could be missing out on new patients. That would be an absolute shame because updating your Google My Business information is simple.
Now that you’re aware how important your Google My Business page is, we’ll give you some steps to make sure you’re ready to rock!
Claim Your Listing:
As you might expect, you can’t just jump in and start editing information on any Google My Business page. First, you have to claim your page before you can start making edits. Claiming your page is easy. Just visit https://www.google.com/business/ to get started. From there you can click on the “start now” button at the top right corner of the page. You’ll then be prompted to type in your business name, and you can follow the necessary steps to verify you have the authority to manage the businesses page (via phone call or postcard).
Update Your Information:
After you’ve gotten your practice verified, it’s time to make sure all the information is correct. Google might have had your hours or address listed already, but you need to verify their accuracy. Check to make sure everything already on your page is correct, and then input the correct information into missing fields.
Upload Diverse Photos:
One of the best things about Google My Business is that it encourages diverse photos. When you’re ready to upload images, you’ll notice that Google has separate spots for identity photos (logos, cover photos), interior photos (photos of the inside of your office), exterior photos (shots of the outside of your building), photos at work (your employees doing their routine work) and team photos (headshots). We encourage you to make sure you have all these categories covered. They’ll make your listing look so much nicer!
Start Generating Reviews:
After you’ve gotten your information up-to-date and your photos uploaded, it’s time to start generating some reviews! Getting (positive) reviews on your Google My Business page is a necessity. If you have at least five reviews on your Google My Business page, you’ll see a star rating show up in your knowledge panel. Seeing four or five golden stars next to your business’ name will make potential patients more likely to give your practice a chance. You want your practice’s rating to show up on a quick Google search, but be careful because an early negative review can bring your rating down!
