We Are Hi5: Taylor Watson

It takes a team to make sure a finished product looks good and functions well.

But one of the biggest reasons we’re able to consistently put out a quality product that meets those two criteria (looks good and functions well) is Taylor Watson, our senior graphic designer.

Taylor is an expert at delivering witty, one-line retorts that often leave us saying, “I walked right into that one.” But he’s also one of the most thoughtful and detail-oriented people we know, making him perfect for his role. That’s evidenced by his commitment to produce outstanding work, no matter how large or small the task is.

“The things I enjoy are the little things no one thinks about. It’s kind of weird because I got into design because of the fame, almost, that comes with it like seeing your billboard that you’ve made where thousands of people see it. What I really like is making patient forms, or something that nobody really thinks about or nobody will really appreciate the design of it. But what they are going to appreciate is that it’s easier to use, that it’s easier to understand. I’ve eliminated some part of something that’s normally complicated and a big struggle, and I’ve made it easier.”

Perhaps the most admirable quality Taylor possesses is a genuine desire to make a positive impact with whatever projects he’s working on and through his interactions with others.

A lot of people say they want to help out, but Taylor talks the talk and walks the walk.

“I want to help real causes and real people. I want to feel like what I’m doing directly benefits somebody.”

We love this Middle Tennessee State University graduate’s sense of humor, his work ethic and his heart.

Taylor At Work:

Hi5’s Five Burning Questions

Hi5: What’s one thing you’re really good at?

Taylor: I like to think I’m pretty good at karaoke, and nobody sees that but a few close friends.

Hi5: If you could live anywhere in the world…

Taylor: I really fell in love with Seattle when I visited a few years ago. Geographically, it’s a very beautiful place. But also, the people who live there, what they believe in and what they’re trying to do is very inspiring to me. Sure, it’s cloudy and rainy, but I would guess Seattle is where I’d live.

Hi5: If you had to be an animal, what would you choose?

Taylor: I’m not just saying this because I have two cats I adore very much, but the reason I like cats as pets is they’re just sort of indifferent. They do their own thing. They come around for some cuddle time and then they’re just like, “whatever, I’m going to go hide behind that.” Is that a boring answer? To be a cat?

Hi5: If we handed you a check for $10 million, what would you do?

Taylor: I don’t know how much I would give, but I would totally give back to the school I used to work at. They’re just always struggling to pay for stuff and deal with stuff. I’d definitely give back to that community. I also want a Tesla. I’d buy the top-of-the-line Tesla.

Hi5: What TV shows are you obsessed with?

Taylor: ‘House of Cards’ is my number one favorite show ever (probably). But it’s not on right now. I have to wait until January. When it comes on, I only have three or four days tops until I’m done with it. I also just started watching a new show on HBO called ‘Insecure,’ and it’s amazing.

You’re the best, Taylor!
